The year-long, CDC-approved program is scheduled to begin August 1.

We are doing the Free Fasting Blood Glucose testing at the Worthington-Jefferson Township Public Library on Saturday, July 8, to see who might have a qualifying blood value and give them the opportunity to begin the intake process.

Diabetes Prevention Program 
Lifestyle changes such as eating healthier, increasing physical activity and losing a modest amount of weight can prevent or delay development of type 2 diabetes in those at high risk for the disease. With the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program, you can work with others in a small group setting to learn how to adopt habits that will improve your overall health and well-being and reduce your risk. The program, which is led by a trained Lifestyle Coach in a classroom setting, is delivered over a 12-month period, beginning with 16 weekly sessions followed by eight monthly maintenance sessions.

Program Goals                                                                                                        

  1. Reduce body weight by 7%
  2. Increase physical activity to 150 minutes per week

Weekly Sessions
Topics covered during the 16 weeks include learning how to eat healthfully by reducing fat in daily nutrition, how to make physical activity a way of life, how to eat out healthfully, how to overcome stress, stay motivated, talk back to negative thoughts, and much more!
