YMCA Issues a Get Fit Challenge Most of us begin the year with big plans to achieve our fitness and weight loss goals. January is a whirlwind of enthusiasm. In February, the momentum starts to die down. And by March, after several decadent slices of pizza and some really well thought out excuses why we can’t go to the gym today, all we have left is guilt. The Owen County Family YMCA is unveiling a weight loss program to keep January’s momentum going and produce real results that will continue long after most NewYear’s resolutions are forgotten. The Get Fit Challenge will begin March 1 and run through June 1, 2010. Every week teams will weigh-in and compete to lose the largest combined percentage of body weight. Team members must weigh-in at the YMCA each Tuesday at 8:30am, 12:30pm, or 5:30pm. Weekly meetings will be held each Tuesday at 6:00pm. At the meetings, information on nutrition and fitness will be available. Teams will be given the tools they need to succeed in their weight loss goals. A certified trainer will be on hand to assist teams with their fitness goals and help individuals make every minute of their workout count. Team members will be encouraged to keep food diaries and exercise logs for weekly review. Most importantly, participants will have the support and encouragement of their teammates necessary to begin long-term lifestyle changes. Get Fit Challenge registration is now being accepted for teams of four each. This program is for members and non-members. Non-members will receive a punch pass for YMCA admission three times per week. The cost is $75 for YMCA members and $125 for non-members. Discounts will be offered if non-members wish to purchase a membership when enrolling in the Get Fit Challenge.
